CD/DVD/Vinyl Reviews
'Six Of One, Half A Dozen Of The Other' is a superb double CD by Snuff. Fifty songs that just about includes all Snuff's best material. This is one of the best CDs i've reviewed since I started punk4life. With excellent songs like '7 Days', 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads' and 'Caught In Session' to name just a few. There's even a cover of 'Don't Fear The Reaper' which I think is an improvement on the original by Blue Oyster Cult.
This double CD has everything from hardcore old school punk through Oi and Ska and even reggae influences and shows how the band have evolved over the years. It also includes a lot of previously unreleased material. This is a release that definately gets my vote.

Billy No Mates are a solo project with Duncan from Snuff. 'We Are Legion' is a good CD and you can see the Snuff influences in some of the songs. In general the music is very similar to Snuff's and some of the songs have that Buzzcocky guitar sound which ain't a bad thing.
I thought the best songs on this CD are 'Bones', 'Slaptop' and 'Seagulls' which all have a great guitar sound at fast pace. A few of the slower songs I wasn't keen on but that's all down to personal taste. If you are fan of Snuff it's a vertual certainty that you'll like Billy No Mates. They aren't hardcore punk and I think they would appeal to the US market even more than the UK because some of their songs sound distinctly American.

The Fat Cats are a rockabilly/punk band and this release 'Deadbeat' is definately more towards the rockabilly/swing style. There are some songs on the CD that have a good Ska feel to them too with a good brass sound. Most of the songs are medium paced and if you favour the more aggressive vocal style this isn't going to be for you.
I definately favoured the songs 'All This Time', 'Mugpunter' and 'You Won't Remember' which have a more Ska style. The Fat Cats are good musicians but they need to sort out what genre they get classified under because for me they aren't sure themselves. There are Ska tracks, rockabilly tracks and swing tracks and although it's a wide variety, they are trying to appeal to a wider fan base which doesn't always work.

This is an album Picture Frame Seduction fans have waited a long time for and I can honestly tell them that it was worth the wait. Eleven new songs and nine live bonus tracks.
The band still retain all the aggression they had when they started out over 25 years ago. This album fairly rattles along and the band definately have their own style of aggressive old school punk. My favourite tracks off the CD are 'Autumn Rain' which starts off with guitar similar to 'Stairway To Heaven' and suddenly explodes into a furious pace. 'UK 82' 'Blair Bush Project' (what a title) and 'Sanity' are all great tracks but on the whole it's a great album. Picture Frame Seduction epitomise what traditional punk is and on this album they have transferred their great live performances to the studio. Definitely gets my vote.
