For
me The Levellers don't even remotely qualify in the punk
stakes. If anything a lot of their music has a distinctly
folk/Irish feel to it. Having said that 'Truth &
Lies' is in fact a pretty decent album. When you
see the talentless dross which is invading the UK charts
at the moment at least bands like The Levellers have something
that is worthy in an age when mainstream UK music has
never been poorer.
There are 11 tracks on the album and if you do like music
with an Irish flavour to it, then this might appeal to
you. I have always thought The Levellers are at their
best on their faster songs and this album is no exception.
I thought 'Last Man Alive' and 'Wheels'
were the best tracks on an album that on the whole is
a good effort.

This five track EP 'Low Life' by Boredom is old
school punk at it's best. With the punk scene being full
of bands who are going for that American sound (which
in my opinion mostly isn't punk) it is great to hear punk
with that 70's sound. Most of the younger bands coming
through just can't attain or don't want to attain this
sound. Is it only bands with members who were around when
punk was born who want to keep the 70's sound alive?
I didn't think there was a bad track on this EP and it
was very hard to pick a favourite. 'Lowlife',
'Last Call', 'Conversations' and 'What's
She got?' are all great songs, fast and with that
old school guitar sound that just can't be beat in my
book. Best track on the CD for me though for me was 'Robbie
Says' which really got my feet tapping through the
floor.

Dogsflesh
were formed in 1982 and after a long layoff they are back,
and back with a vengeance. After recently playing on the
Punk4life all dayer I was really impressed with them.
They have slotted back into the old school groove like
they've never been away. This four track EP 'Bloody
Road To Death' has definate influences by Discharge
and is excellent. Fast as fuck and hard as nails this
is what I call punk, not some pale immitation which is
called punk because we are told it is.
'Fast Livin' Boy', 'Out My Head', and
the title track 'Bloody Road To Death' are all
great songs but they are topped by 'Mad Punx &
Psycho Skins' which is widely recognised as the bands
anthem. If you like your punk fast as fuck and where the
drummer needs to be on a drip after a gig, this is for
you.

Down
And Outs are from Liverpool and they are one of the best
Scouse bands I have seen over many years. Only formed
in 2003 the big following they have got in and around
Liverpool seems to be filtering through to other cities
now. A great live band and this is a great CD. 'Boys
From The Blackstuff' is about what life is all about
in Liverpool and you can tell these guys are proud of
their city. Their very melodic songs have superb lyrics
and choruses you can't help but join in.
There are 14 tracks on this excellent CD and with songs
like 'I'll Never Die Alone In this City', 'Another
Night Alone', 'Boys From The Blackstuff',
'Doledays
And Saveways' and the best track on the CD in my
opinion 'We're Down And Out' I don't expect these
guys to be signing on the dole in the near future.
