Well
i'd not heard much by Lancaster band The Guilty Pleasures
before their 'Think Of England' E.P. but I
thought this CD was pretty good. It is raw and catchy
and whereas the guitar is sometimes a bit too flambouyant
it does give them an added dimension . Another band
from the Noize Anoize stable these young guys have a
good sound that people will recognise as being them.
This is a definite plus in a market place that is swamped
with very similar sounding bands. For me identity equals
credibilty.
On the whole this 6 track E.P. is a good effort and
well produced. The six tracks are 'Riot In Hell',
'Your Thousand Alibis', 'Independence',
'Serial Killer' Which I thought was the best
of the bunch, 'Think Of England' and 'Radio
Controlled'.

I
have seen these guys live a few times and for me they
are one of the best young ska/punk bands doing the circuit
at the moment. 'I'm Invincible!, I'm Built Like
A Sherman Tank Somebody Try And Stop Me!' hasn't
just got a title that's too long to put on the side
of the CD case, it's a very good effort. 14 tracks mixed
with ska/punk guitar and horns that makes it different
to both ska and punk but a blend of both. Ska/punk is
definitely a genre all on its own and this album shows
it. I thought the best tracks on this well produced
album were 'Truth Of Everything', 'Stand
Alone', 'Oh Baby' and 'Next Big Story'.
I hear a lot of stuff by ska orientated bands but I
thought the horns on this CD are every bit as good as
what you'll hear on the Two-Tone releases we all know.

I
was never a fan of Emergency until recently but they
have definitely drifted from mediocrity to being a decent
band, especially live.
'Shut Your North & South' has got a rock
'n' roll feel to it but it's definitely punk. There
are 15 tracks on the album and this upsurge in quality
has definitely filtered through on to this CD. It's
well produced and on the whole I thought their material
is good. I thought the best tracks on the album were
'Looking Around', 'The Chosen One',
'Hey Psycho' and my favourite 'Suicide
City'. The last track on the album 'Hey Rock
'N' Roll' whilst being a cover isn't a bad effort
but i'm sure they have enough in their armoury to keep
future albums completely home grown. Worth checking
out.

'So
The Youth' the debut album by The Skeptix was originally
released in 1982 on vinyl long before CDs had arrived.
This re-release is on Thunk records which is run by
Fish, The Skeptix guitarist.
Added to the original 14 tracks are re-recordings of
all 14 original songs which really makes this good value.
There is also a 12 page booklet which has the lyrics
and some nostalgic photos of the band in the early days
when they had a lot more hair. The album itself is excellent
and there are differences between the re-recorded versions
and the original versions, maybe experience of all their
years together. This is pure punk for the punk rock
purist. Best songs for me were 'Violent Streets', 'Traitor'
and 'Next Victim'. Thumbs up here.
