CD/DVD/Vinyl Reviews

I first heard Rhythmic Coughing at a gig recently and I thought they were pretty good. They are a young band full of energy and this self titled EP is a great effort. Most of the EP is furiously paced but there are more melodic bits and even a bit of a reggae sound spaced between the fast bits. I do have one criticism about the band though. Their music is fast and aggressive and I think the singer should impose a bit more aggression into the songs, I think it would definately go better with their style of music. Having said that, the quality of the music is excellent and i did find it hard to pick a favourite track because it's such a good EP and well produced too. If I had to pick a favourite it would probably be 'Where Did She Go'.

I saw The Kirkz live recently and I really enjoyed the set they played, but this album 'Over The Top' shows just what a talented band they really are.
The album comprises a whole of hour of superb music in 16 tracks and is well worth buying. I have played the album to death since getting it. This is probably one of the best DIY releases I have come across and it is professional from the artwork to the excellent production.
Their music has the sound of a hybrid British/US band which would appeal to fans both sides of the Atlantic.
It was very difficult to pick a favourite out of 16 tracks that are all good but 'Eight-Balled', 'Let Me Down' and 'Time For A Riot' really are the dog's bollocks.

Yet another band I saw live recently. They only just managed to squeeze all their members on stage but it makes for a great sound.
'The Revenge Of the Village Idiots' is a great album that will appeal to both punk and ska fans alike. It's fast as fuck and Sweeny's vocals really pump out aggression. The backing vocals are good too. The brass section really adds another dimension to punk and this CD, but I do think the brass could be a bit more to the forefront on some tracks. Most of their choruses are singalong and you just have to join in.
It is a well produced album and the sound is great. If I had to choose favourites off the album I would go for 'If It Sells, It sells' and 'Never Never' which is superb.

First thing I have heard from Allegiance Free who are based in Cumbria. A great cover to their 'Eat The Children' which shows the 62 year old virgin Cliff Richard tucking into a hearty meal of kids heads.
The CD itself starts off with 'Hardman' which I didn't really like at all it is too slow and not my idea of punk. The second track 'Everybody Out' is a song basically taking the piss out of the coppers it isn't bad but there are bits of the song that sound more like reggae than punk. The third track 'Mr President' is easily the best track off the CD. This is more like it with great guitar and a it has a Dead Kennedys feel to it. I would swear the singer is american. The final track 'Everybody Out' is also pretty good and also has that Kennedys feel to it. Stick to the fast stuff guys and you might make an impact.
