'The Punk Singles Collection' by The Ruts has all the best songs the band released on it in my opinion. The band contributed some classic songs in their short but productive time together. One of the few bands who tried and succeeded to blend punk and reggae they were always a favourite of mine. I remember buying the single Babylon's Burning in 1979 just before I left school and I was hooked. Unfortunately they were one of the few bands I never got to see live.
The album is stacked with quality 'In A Rut', 'H-Eyes', 'Babylon's Burning', 'Society', 'Something That I said', 'Give Youth A Chance', 'Jah War', 'I Ain't Sofisticated', 'Staring At The Rude Boys', 'Love In Vain', 'West One (Shine On Me), 'The Crack', 'Stepping Bondage', 'Lobotomy', 'Rich Bitch', 'Different View' and 'Formula Eyes'. A great buy.

AHOY CD 272 THE RUTS "PUNK SINGLES COLLECTION"

The 'Punk Singles Collection' by The Destructors is the first of 2 Albums to be released on the Captain Oi label this month. I must admit to not having heard much by these guys but what a good band they are. As you know I really love old school punk and this album is crammed mostly with quality old school songs, 29 tracks in total, which in anybody's book is good value.
How I hadn't heard more by these guys is a mystery but now i've heard most of their repertoire i'll be playing them on a regular basis. Even if you haven't heard much by The Destructors, if you are into old school punk I think investing in this album you won't go far wrong. All their best releases are here in one place. Top notch.

AHOY CD 274 THE DESTRUCTORS "PUNK SINGLES COLLECTION"

The second release by The Destructors this month is 'Exercise The Demons Of Youth'. I myself think it was a mistake by Captain Oi to release both these albums by The Destructors in the same month. This is also an excellent album but with a lot of the 28 tracks on the album being replicated on 'Punk Singles Collection' (Half to be exact), sales will probably be split between both releases. I myself thought 'Punk Singles Collection' was the better of both albums but will people invest in both albums when half the tracks are on both? If you are a fan of The Destructors there are still 14 tracks that aren't on the above album and that might sway you into buying both but i'm not so sure. As in the first album it is good value and filled with great old school songs.
