CD/DVD/Vinyl Reviews

Alternative Influence aren't what i'd call punk but that doesn't detract from the fact that 'Apathy, Cynicism And Complacency Are The Enemies Of Change' is a damn fine album. With so much dross making a mark on the music scene at moment it's refreshing to hear a band who have the talent that deserves to be heard by a wider audience. With songs about animal rights, the destruction of our planet and the class system they have that anarchic attitude that was so prevalent when punk was born in the mid 70s. These guys could with the right promotion make a real impact on the UK music scene but i'm sure they are more concerned with getting their messages over than making money. The album is completely DIY and superbly produced but in 'It's Happenin' Again' they have come up with a real gem. Quality all the way.

'No Guts No Glory' is a split CD with 8 tracks each by The Lobotomies and The Cunts. The first 8 tracks on this album are by The Lobotomies who are from Belfast. The band who are skate/streetpunk influenced were only formed in October 2005 and started gigging a couple of months later. Whilst the material by them off the album could be a lot tighter I thought some of their songs were good and with more gigs they can only improve. Keep at it guys.
The Cunts have been around for 3 years and i've heard stuff by them in the past that I thought was pretty good. Their songs off the album are a lot tighter than The Lobotomies and on the whole I thought the 8 songs by them were excellent. A good band who still have a slight reggae/ska influence on a couple of their songs they are definitely a band to look out for live.

This is the first thing i've heard by Pink Punk and after hearing 'Zoo Politics' I hope I never hear anything by them again. They might have punk as part of their name but they have about as much in common punk wise as The Village People. Their music is like a cross between poor mans rap and a shitty DJ mix. I know this is only my opinion but if I could only listen to this type of music I would rather be deaf. The nicest thing I can say about this 14 track album is that it is absolute shite.
Why people want to send this type of music to punk4life is beyond me as there won't be a single visitor to the site interested in this kind of dross and it is CERTAIN to get a shit review from me. This site is for punk, oi, ska and anything similar and distibutors would be wise to remember that.

'Nothing Set in Stone' is one of the best various artists compilations i've been sent since starting punk4life. The first offering i've had from Thunk Records and if this is going to be their usual standard they won't go far wrong. With 25 songs all by different artists and quite a few from overseas (Denmark, Italy, USA, Norway and Holland) this is what I like as it gives me a chance to hear some bands I haven't heard before. There is something on here for everybody so it's definitely worth buying. Too many punks only follow well known bands and in my opinion that ain't punk at all. This CD is REAL PUNK.
Some of the artists on the CD are The Zero Point, AFS, The Fanny Pads, Section 5, Fire Exit, Churchill, The Skeptix, 200 Bullets, Dead End Boys and The Dirty Toilets. Thumbs up here.
