If
you like music with a distinctive Irish flavour the
'Chaos Theory' Double DVD by Levellers will
probably go down well with you, just as it did with
me.
The first DVD is filmed at The Hexagon in Reading on
31st March 2006. It is a whole live concert, very well
filmed and edited and and the sound quality is excellent.
The tracks are a mix of all the songs throughout the
bands history. You just can't help but dance to their
music, which is basically the same with most Irish music,
it must just trigger something in your brain.
The second DVD is comprised of some very early footage
of the band, other live footage from an acoustic concert
at Buxton Opera House in 2004 where several guests stars
(Maddy Prior, Nick Burridge, Rev Hammer and Nick Harper)
play with the band. There is also some footage from
a gig in 2005 where Billy Bragg sings a few tracks with
the band. Other extras include Part Time Punks, which
is the bands 1993 tour diary, some band/fan interviews
and Reading Hexagon souncheck. One thing though, i'm
not a fan of these so called extras that a lot of films
and music DVDs have with them. People really just want
to watch the music or film and the extra DVD just bumps
up the price.

'The
Battle For Zeeb Beta' a new 5 track E.P. by ZEEB
comes with a free booklet that comprises a few cartoons
and a history of the band that leads me to the conclusion
that they must all indulge in mind altering drugs. Having
said that if the band can continue with their humour the
drugs are working. With influences from Kiss and The Darkness
mixed in with a bit of punk and a few other influences
they can span the musical genres with their music. After
hearing their debut album earlier this year I still think
this band have the capacity to make inroads and I have
heard their live shows are legendary, i'll pay a visit
to see them live if they can give me a lift home on their
spaceship. Best track of the 5 on the CD for me was 'She
Bot' but this is another pretty good effort. ZEEB
phone home.

This
is the second volume of 'The Ugly Truth About Blackpool'.
It's the same format as the first CD with 26 tracks all
by different bands who hail from Britain's tackiest seaside
resort. Listening to this it is amazing how many good
bands come from what is really only a small town. As with
volume one there is a good musical mix and quite a few
bands I hadn't heard anything by which is always pleasing.
Some of The bands featured are SICK56, The Tommys, Walter
And The Knobheads, Litterbug, One Way System, When People
Become Numbers, UFX, The Senton Bombs, and The Interruptions.
I must admit I liked volume one more but there is still
a lot of good stuff on volume two.

This
split CD 'Sturm Unt Drang' by Destructors666
and The 925s is an unusual choice in that both bands musical
style are completely different. I have found with most
split CDs the bands do have similarities. There are 3
tracks by each band and whilst this is yet more good material
by Destructors666, I was more interested to hear what
The 925s sound like having never heard anything by them.
Well they aren't what you'd call a punk band, if anything
they are more Indie. But having said that the 3 tracks
by them were pretty good especially 'Wake Up'
which vies with 'Action Woman' by Destructors666
for the best track off the CD. A good effort.
