CD/DVD/Vinyl Reviews

Well i've heard the previous three albums by Deadline and each album has got progressively better resulting in 'Take A Good Look' which in my opinion is their finest release to date. Musically excellent and with one of the best female vocalists in the business they have in a relatively short time become recognised throughout Europe as one of the best live punk acts. Their last album sold over 10,000 copies throughout Europe and 'Take A Good Look' should easily top that. Of the 14 tracks on the album I couldn't find a bad one. A mixture of streetpunk and hardcore this will appeal to fans of both genres.Full of catchy songs and vocals that put Pauline Murray and Poly Styrene in the shade this is one of the best albums i've heard this year and i've heard a few.

The Zero Point, one of the best things to come from Denmark (Excluding Color Climax) have finally released 'Hooligans With Cheap Guitars' their long awaited back catalogue CD. There are an incredible 36 tracks on the album that includes songs from the bands early days in 1979 right through to present day. With a mixture of live, demos, rehearsal, previously unreleased studio tracks as well as previously released material, this is a very good value album. As punk as any British band and with that British old school sound to back it up, if you haven't heard anything by these guys now might be the time to check them out. The Zero Point have been around for a long time and in that time they have produced some great songs, most of which are on this album. Thumbs up from me.

'Brothers Of The Head' Music From The Motion Picture by American band The Bangbang is most noted in that the two main members Tom and Barry Howe are siamese twins. Well i'd never heard of these guys before, their music has that kind of sound of the mid 70s when punk was evolving. I wasn't sure after just one play but after several plays it really started to grow on me. These guys have the look of a boy band and I hate boy bands but where boy bands are the worst kind of shit imagineable, these guys have the musical ability that boy bands only have whilst they are dreaming. With some really good punk tracks and some songs that have a mid 70s feel to them this is a pretty good album. There are 9 tracks and 9 bonus tracks performed by other bands and live and acoustic versions by The BangBang.

Well this is the only the second album i've reviewed by a French band. 'L'album De La Maturite' by Wolfunkind also comes with a free CD of them live at the TerTerre Festival. After listening to both CDs all this meant to me is that you get twice as much shit for the same price. The band are quoted as Punk/Funk/Rock and in my experience punk and funk are two genres that aren't even in the same universe. Listed as having 16 tracks, 5 of the so called tracks together have a combined time of 47 seconds. They are definitely towards the funk end of the spectrum and whilst they are quoted as not taking themselves too seriously, I didn't take them seriously either. This is dross of the highest calibre.
