This album 'Some Of What You Need And Don't Need
To Know' by Monkey Island has music that ranges
from punk through to rockabilly to blues. I think a
band should stick to a specific genre, then fans know
what to expect.
There are 11 tracks on the album, 3 which I would classiify
loosely as punk, 'Do The Lipsync', 'Urbanal'
and 'Brand Ex'. These guys have definately
got musical talent but they need to pigeon-hole themselves
into one specific genre which will give them more identity
with the public. If asked about what what music they
play they can then say either punk, rockabilly or whatever
instead of saying 'A bit of everything'. Having said
that the production is pretty good. I thought the best
track on the album is 'Do The Lipsync'.

The
Explosion are a band from Boston in the US. 'Black
Tape' is their major label debut and what a debut
it is. The first track 'Deliver Us' kicks off
the album well and just like most of the songs on this
album it's a real singalong anthem. The first single off
the album 'Here I Am' is excellent and a great
choice. Other tracks I really liked off the album were
'Mothers Cry','Flithy Insane' and 'No
Revolution' but my favourite song off the album is
'Atrocity' which delivers a kick in the nuts
to George Bush with the line 'I won't fight in any wars
and I can't stand to see much more atrocity' seemingly
referring to Iraq. There are 12 tracks on the album and
it's definately going to make an impact. This band kick
ass.
The Explosion definately have the sound of a US band but
it's their own sound. This band are destined to be big
i'll stake my bollocks on it. The album is on general
release.

This
Album was given to me by one of the guys with The Explosion.
Spitzz are friends of theirs also from Boston.
I had never heard of Spitzz before but this 'Sick,
Savage And Sensual' album of theirs is really good.
This band have the sound of a British punk band and they
would go definately go down well in the UK. Most of the
tracks on the CD are around the 2 minute mark, which is
all the time any good punk song needs to be. There are
are 11 tracks on the album in total and they are all pretty
good. There are is a mix of medium pace tracks and fast
and furious tracks on the album. Best tracks on the album
for me are 'Dandelion', 'Unnatural',
'Come On' and 'Skitzz'. The album is
well produced and is on the Tarantulas label, which The
Explosion formed. An excellent album.

It's
so refreshing to see an all female band who aren't just
like the other female bands around at the moment. Most
of the female bands today like Atomic Kitten, Girls Allowed
and all the other shit like them have no musical talent
whatsoever. It would be a blessing if all these bands
went on tour together and their tour bus crashed. It would
spare us being force fed any more of their shit.
Having said that The Cherry Bombers are nothing like those
bands, they can play instruments unlike the bands mentioned
earlier. This single isn't bad at all. The first track
'Turn Around' is a bit poppy but it's still ok.
The second track 'Backseat
Lovers' is an altogether better
song with a good rasping guitar sound, much more of punk
sound. I really liked this song and I think this band
might have a future if they can come up with more songs
like 'Backseat Lovers'
