'Death
Valley' is the new album by South Wales punks Foreign
Legion. Well not to beat about the bush this is an excellent
CD especially as i've been sent a lot of shite recently.
These guys have been around for over 20 years and over
that time they've honed their own brand of melodic punk.
It is hard to attain a unique sound in punk considering
it's all been done before over the last 30 years, but
somehow these guys have managed it. If you like tuneful
punk this will be right up your street. As musicians these
guys are top notch in all departments and it really shines
through on this album. Of the 13 tracks on the album there's
plenty to get the blood pumping, 'Rat Race', 'Take
A Look' and 'Party In Prague' were my personal
favourites and this well produced album definitely gets
the thumbs up from me.

This
is the second CD i've reviewed by this trio of young guys
from Colchester. Since reviewing their first EP the bands
debut single 'Blag, Steal & Borrow' charted
at No 31 which made them the first unsigned band ever
to make the official top 40 chart in the UK. This obviously
well engineered publicity stunt has guaranteed the band
the attention that will probably end in them being signed
by a major label. In todays musical climate it really
isn't that hard to chart and it doesn't take many sales
to get noticed, not like in the days prior to downloads.
Having said that Koopa have got the talent to succeed
and their latest single 'The One-Off Song For The
Summer' which is similar in style to The Offspring
is as good as the American style punk bands plying their
trade stateside. Another good effort.

This
is the first i've heard from South Wales based A New Day
and I must admit I liked what I heard. Only the 2 tracks
'Reality Check' and 'More To A Hero Than
Saving The Day' but this just left me wanting to
hear more. It isn't easy to pigeon-hole these guys into
any specific genre, there are many influences in their
music, mainly hardcore, punk and rock but it all gels
nicely together. This is very different to most CDs i've
been sent by young punk bands as most seem to be concentrating
their efforts towards breaking into the American market,
where they can make a quick buck or two. Saddly the youth
of today are deluged with reality TV programmes that make
them think they can become millionaires overnight. If
you have no talent you won't make it. A New Day have talent
and they could make it.

Why
do record labels insist in sending CDs of this ilk to
what is a website that is for punk, Oi, Ska, hardcore
and anything related. Mesh 29 aren't even remotely related
to any of the genres listed above. This trio from Peterborough
are more likely related to Supertramp than The Sex Pistols.
'Over The Barricade' a 3 tracker is accoustic
with piano and vocals with no aggression, what has that
got that I could possibly find to interest me? Nothing.
These guys might be getting a lot of hits on their myspace
website but there they will be attracting people who ARE
interested in hearing their kind of music, people visiting
punk4life want to read reviews about punk, that's why
they are here. This has no punk influences at all so it
really shouldn't be here.
