CD/DVD/Vinyl Reviews

'With Added Cheese' is the new album from Rochdale punks Suspicious Stains. I would have liked to see more than 9 tracks but some bands just end up using below par songs to make an album longer. Stains certainly haven't done that and the result is 9 quality tracks that certainly went down well with me. 'Linda Barker' (That twat off Changing rooms on the BBC), 'Rockstar' and 'Fight Without A Cause' are songs I can rapidly see becoming favourites amongst fans but my favourite was ASBO which blends old school punk with ska perfectly. The production is excellent, with good artwork and their video of 'Rockstar' (Free with first 50 copies) is as good as it gets. You can also view the video Here. Get your hands in your pockets as this is a good value CD at just 6 quid including Postage.

This is the third and final chapter in the 'Middleground' trilogy. Ranging from the old school punk by Dogshit Sandwich and The Nihillists, the catchy punk tunes by Eastfield, the excellent skapunk by Collective Responsibility right through to great acoustic punk supplied by Paul Carter, this is a good mix that should have something to satisfy everyone. There are also 2 previously unreleased tracks from the '80s by Brummie punks Drongos For Europe which is an incentive on it's own to buy this CD. All of the bands on this CD are lesser known compared to the likes of The Damned and UK Subs but don't let that put you off because this is a CD i'd be buying myself if I hadn't been given a copy to review. There are 28 tracks altogether and I certainly think it's a bargain.

'777' is the second split EP Destructors 666 have done with The Ruined but this is quite a bit different to both bands last split CD 'Plus Ca Change Pour La Meme Chose' which was definitely more punk than gothic. This is gothic pure and simple and the song titles 'Poison Ivy' and 'The Dead Are After Me' the 2 songs by The ruined and 'The Vampire's Kiss' and 'The Graveyard Stomp' by Destructors 666 give it away straight away. This isn't a bad CD but I myself preferred their first CD because it had more of a hard edge. This is completely different to earlier Destructors 666 material and will probably surprise any fans including me who have earlier material. Sometimes change can be good but if your music is already appealing to fans a change in style can be detrimental. Don't change a winning formula.

'Many Were Killed Few Were Chosen' the debut album by Destructors 666 has taken a while but these guys have always kept busy releasing 6 quality EPs (5 split) and this album is just what the doctor ordered after hearing '777' (above). I was wondering whether there would be a style change towards gothic but hopefully that was just a one off. This 17 track CD has lived up to my expectations as these guys have rapidly become a favourite of mine. With a few new recordings of old Destructors numbers, some that appeared on split EPs and 8 brand new songs this is musically solid old school punk and if that's what you're into then you won't go far wrong. Of the new songs 'Rock 'N' Roll Man' and 'I've Been Watching (The New York Dolls)' were the best of a pretty good bunch.
