CD/DVD/Vinyl Reviews

'Delirium Tremors' is the new album by AFS (Arthritic Foot Soldiers) and as I have heard all their previous material I was expecting another solid CD. I certainly wasn't disappointed. AFS are always good value and their style of music which is instantly recognisable is displayed very well on this superb album. This 17 track album is crammed with catchy songs that you'll find yourself singing along to. I have enjoyed all AFS's previous releases but this CD has brought them up to another level, the quality is constant throughout the entire CD and the production is better than anything they have released previously. My personal favourites were 'Trouble With Bullets', 'Duped', 'Fight For Freedom' and 'Dead Man Walking' and in my opinion this is definitely AFS's finest release to date.

Gimp Fist are a band i've heard of but 'One Tribe' a 9 tracker that is their latest release is the first example of their music i've had the chance to listen to. Fuck the waffling and i'll just cut to the chase. This CD is fucking great, having aggression, melody and that raw guitar sound I love. The CD fairly rattles along and as soon as I heard the first track 'Too Little Too Late' I couldn't wait to hear more. 'War On The Streets' the second track is a great singalong and after hearing all nine tracks several times that was my personal favourite. Although the production isn't the best I think more polished production could have actually detracted from the sound. I liked every song off this CD and Gimp Fist are now one of the bands right at the top of my list of bands to see live.

I saw Faintest Idea live on the SAS 3 dayer in September and they were excellent. This release by them 'For Every Window, There's a Brick' is a 7 track CD that is a mixture of punk and ska that all gels together superbly. Individual songs skip backwards and forwards between punk and ska but the brass definitely adds another dimension to this band. There are plenty of changes in tempo and the kind of music that Faintest Idea play is guaranteed to get those bums off seats. The production is pretty good too and I look forward to hearing more material from them in the future. Hopefully a full length album will be in the pipeline soon. This is an excellent CD from start to finish.
These guys rate highly in both the punk and ska stakes for me and hopefully they will attract fans from both genres.

I hadn't heard anything by Johnny Foreigner until 'Arcs Across The City' a 6 track EP fell through my letterbox. Well to be brutally honest this just wasn't my cup of tea, there just wasn't anything that grabbed my interest. I didn't like the combination of male and female vocals which just didn't work for me and the music was as uninspiring as anything i've heard recently. The hype that i've read about them is totally unjustified but people these days just swallow it hook, line and sinker. It seems that bands attempting to gain credibility in the mainstream have never been poorer than at this time. Downloads aren't the only reason for rapidly decreasing CD sales. This is just another band that without the hype they have had would go unnoticed at most gigs.
