CD/DVD/Vinyl Reviews

Well it's finally here the long awaited new album by instant Agony. 'Exploitation' is a 15 track album that has 13 new songs and re-recordings of 2 tracks released earlier on vinyl 'Not My Religion' and 'One Man Army'. In my opinion both these newer versions are even better than the originals which were good in their own right. I am so glad Agony have kept the raw edge that in my mind defines their music. The production is just right and whilst still driven by their drums the excellent bass was more noticeable than on earlier material. There are so many good songs on the album it's hard to pick favourites but 'An Image For Money' is a classic and 'Stabbed In The Back' and the slower but superb 'Show Some Respect' weren't far behind. Was the wait worth it? Definitely. This is the dog's bollocks, pure quality but next time lad's don't leave it so long.

We are only just into 2008 but 'Ungreat Britain', Citizen Keyne's new 13 track album is guaranteed to be amongst the best CDs I receive this year. It's an angry album describing what a sickening shithole Britain has become. The songs cover issues which are affecting people in Britain everywhere. In the songs 'Lies', 'Chaos', 'Chavs', 'Murder In The City', and 'Stabbings, Shootings' the no nonsense lyrics tell us about why Britain has become a pit of despair we just can't climb out of. The music is uncomplicated but that's the real beauty of it. No punches are pulled and Citizen Keyne tell it like it is. If the title track 'Ungreat Britain' was on a Cockney Rejects album it would be hailed as an Oi classic. This is a great album that should go down really well especially with fans of Oi.

Yet another release by regularly featured punks Destructors 666. It's another split EP this time with White Clouds And Gunfire. I thought 'Caveat Emptor' was a weird split with White Clouds And Gunfire being basically a melodic rock band. The 3 tracks by White Clouds And Gunfire are pretty good with 'Giving It Everything' being the best of the bunch. It wouldn't surprise me if these guys end up being signed by a big label as they'll go down well with the youth of today who buy the most music.
There are 4 tracks by Destructors 666 with 'Electronic Church' being the best of the lot and 'Piss Stain' not far behind. These old school punks are a great band producing constantly good songs but unfortunately they don't seem to play many gigs.

It's obvious whoever sent me a copy of Johnny Foreigner's EP 'Arcs Across The City' hadn't read the review I wrote for it because it got a slating second to none.
This time we have a single 'Our Bipolar Friends' and 'The Houseparty Scene Is Killing You'.'Our Bipolar Friends' is a pretty good song but there are flaws with too many changes in tempo which complicates and spoils what could be a lot better with a constant fast tempo. I think the changes of tempo are a trait of the band but for me it just doesn't work. 'The Houseparty Scene Is Killing You' is just a poor song that follows the trend of most 2nd songs on singles by bands these days. Have I changed my opinion about these guys, not really because it takes more than one good song to make good band.
