This
is the first of 4 great rock 'n' roll albums by 'Rose
Tattoo' released by Captain Oi. 'Rock 'n' Roll
Outlaws' is the first of the 4 albums (originally
released in 1981) and although not punk I thought it was
a great album. 'Rose Tattoo' are a great Rock 'n' Roll
band in the true sense. I must say I had never heard anything
by them before and I was pleasantly surprised. After hearing
this and the other 3 albums I am amazed they never made
more of an impact on the rock 'n' roll scene in this country.
I would have sworn the lead singer was Rod Stewart if
nobody had told me. Full of rock 'n' roll riffs and great
foot tapping songs. If you like real rock 'n' roll you
can't fail to like 'Rose Tattoo'. The best song on this
album for me has got to be 'Remedy' but on the
whole it is a great album.
'Assault
& Battery' (also originally released in 1981) is more
of the same foot tapping songs, and by this time I had
got to like 'Rose Tattoo'. I wouldn't say they have got
their own unique style but they are definately listenable.
The slide guitar which features in all their songs does
add something different. Great rock 'n' roll music is
uncomplicated, look at Status Quo who played the same
song with different lyrics for over 30 years. Why change
a formula that works? There is one song on this album
'Let It Go' which for me is easily the best of
songs on the album. Another good album.
'Scarred For Life' the third of the 4 albums
(originally released in 1982) is another in the classic
rock 'n' roll style. Rose Tattoo's lyrics are about things
that really matter in life. Angry Anderson the singer
is quite a small guy but his vocals
are
as good as any of the other singers in their genre. In
general I would say this album is a bit slower in speed
than the first two albums. This isn't to say it is a bad
album but I myself prefered the first 2 albums reviewed
here. The best song for me on the album was 'Who's
Got The Cash' a great song and my personal favourite
out of all 4 albums.
'Southern Stars' (originally released in 1984)the
fourth album by 'Rose Tattoo' re-released by
Captain Oi is yet another good album by the 'Tatts'.
All 4 albums are well produced but I think Captain Oi
might have missed an oppotunity to sell all 4 albums as
a box set especially coming up to Christmas. 'Let
us Live' is for me the best song on the album and
there is a similarity between them and Rainbow. (who they
did tour with) If you do like bands in the same genre
as Rainbow, then 'Rose Tattoo' are for you.
