If you are into old school punk then Red Alert will definately appeal to you. Their style is very similar to another favourite band of mine 'The Pits'. This album 'Excess All Areas' really covers whole the punk spectrum. The music ranges from hardcore to the more melodic. They are very much a guitar band and the guitar on this album is first class. The vocals concentrate on melody rather than just pure aggression. My one reservation is the last song on the album 'Prepordodjeni Beograd (A Reborn Belgrade)' which I didn't like at all. I think they would have been better to leave this track off the album. It's not at all in keeping with the rest of the album, which is excellent. My favourite tracks of the 12 on this album are 'Seize The Day','No Quarter Asked' and 'I Ain't Asking For The World'.

"Resurrecton" by The Last Resort is yet another that punks might buy having worn the grooves out on the vinyl. For the uninitiated The Last Resort are a London based Oi band. This album has some great tracks on it notably 'ACAB' (All Coppers Are Bastards) which is a classic Oi anthem. Other great tracks of the 13 tracks on the album are 'Bolthole', 'No Lazy Sunday Afternoon' and 'Evil' and the whole album is crammed full of some of the best Oi anthems around.
Maybe not as well known as some of the other Oi bands around, they are every bit as good. The last Resort sing about what every true Oi band sing about, hating the system and violence. This CD is excellent and well produced as is the case with all CDs brought out by Captain Oi.

AHOY CD 254 LAST RESORT "RESURRECTION"
There are several Sham 69 compilations on the market but this compilation 'The Punk Singles Collection 1977-80' is the most comprehensive. It has 26 tracks of which 4 are live and there isn't much that you have heard by Sham 69 that isn't on this CD. All the best songs from one of the foremost punk bands on the scene when it all started. There are absolute classics like 'Angels With Dirty Faces','If The Kids Are United' and 'Borstal Breakout' on this CD but also some of the lesser known songs like 'Red London' and 'Give A Dog
A Bone
' and the live tracks are great too.
It is always good to just slap in the CD and not have to keep changing CDs. That is why compilations are so good, even if you have some of the songs on other albums.
